April 30th Live Jazz Luncheon

On April 30th of this year I was invited to play a volunteer luncheon at Holy Family Home. It was a rousing success and it’s rare that you get to do a daytime gig and even rarer getting to do a solo jazz guitar gig. Many people came out to me afterwards and told me how I say liked it and I was recommended by the person who hired me to a bunch of other care home entertainment directors which was great except for one small thing. Because it was a daytime gig and only an hour I didn’t charge very much plus the fact that it was a care home. So everybody who called me after that at the recommendation of the person in question was expecting that same rate and so I had to turn down or had two gigs sort of fall out of my fingers because they wanted me to play on a Friday night for some event and you know my rate for for a Friday night is much different than my rate for a Wednesday afternoon.

The message is if you need solo guitar for a daytime event, it won’t cost you as much as it would cost you for a Friday evening or a Saturday evening event or a wedding or any other sort of thing.

That’s the message here, not that I charge more, but I charge less in certain situations.

Anyways, it was a great time I really enjoyed it. It was a nice sounding room and the music they were playing before and after my my part of the show was appropriate styles of jazz music as opposed to a lot of times when I go up and play some place they’ll be playing the radio or or just something completely the opposite of what I’m going to do and it doesn’t set the mood very well.

I had a good time I want to do it again.
