Newfoundland 2018 – Day 9

A little slow going today but after lunch at Rocket Bakery, a finely disorganized hippy cafe, we went and hiked around the Cabot Tower.

The North Head Trail winds from the top of Signal Hill down and around to “The Battery”.

Starting at the top!

The trail is a combination of steps and paths.

When we got to the end (we knew in advance that the loop was closed due to construction/repair) and had to go back UP!

We stopped at all the red chairs to rest and at one set we were able to see whales again!

After the walk I decided I wanted a new fishing experience. So I headed out to Butter Pot Provincial Park well known for having brook trout in its lakes.  This pristine park is only 30 minutes from downtown St. Johns!

While I was told where to fish by a spin fisher (lakes) I thought I’d see if I could find something more fly fishing friendly.

First cast, last cast, brook trout a plenty! Also lots of black flies!

The two branches leading into the lake had quite the drop to them so finding the fish lies was a challenge. But this is the kind of fishing I love!
